Brussels, a city for visitors of all ages!

Brussels will delight young and older visitors alike, and so is a dream destination for families! Its advantages are its diversity, the richness of its history and its activities. Not forgetting that it’s built on a human scale, which will delight parents and reassure children. If you still need convincing, just follow this itinerary for a family weekend in Brussels!

Day 1: Saturday

Museums and strip cartoons!

Having purchased your BRUSSELS CARD (BRUXELLES), go to Brussels Central station and get aboard the . On today’s programme, a trail around the strip-cartoon and old-fashioned decors of the city’s museums!

> Natural History on Show
If your children are dinosaur fans, they won’t be disappointed by the largest dinosaur gallery in Europe at the Museum of Natural Science (BRUXELLES), which offers plenty more besides: rocks and minerals (including moon rocks), whales and live insects. The museum is located next to the EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT (UE PARLEMENT) and the LEOPOLD PARK (ETTERBEEK), and the museum’s “Dino” café offers delicious children’s menus !

> Belgian Comic Strip Centre - BCSC (BRUXELLES)
This building was originally designed by Victor Horta and now Tintin, the Smurfs, Lucky Luke and many other characters live there in the Belgian Comic Strip Centre - BCSC (BRUXELLES). Who was Victor Horta? He was one of the founders of the Art Nouveau style (), and this building is one of his masterpieces! Now you can find out about all your favourite cartoon characters here!

Waffles and shopping

If your children are hungry, then it’s a perfect time to enjoy some of our famous Belgian waffles! You’ll find the best supplier of this local speciality in the city centre, on the corner of the Rue de l’Ecuyer and the Rue du Marché aux Herbes.

Now for a spot of shopping! Your children will love the “Tintin Shop” with its wide range of merchandise linked to our local strip-cartoon star. For toys, don’t miss “Grasshopper”… And to finish, pay a visit to “Kat en Muis” (“Cat and Mouse”) for its unmissable childrens’ clothes!

At Léon’s everything is good

Round off your day at this temple to Belgium’s national dish, mussels and chips (Belgium's Gourmet Cuisine and Gastronomy). The restaurant “Chez Léon” has become a national institution, serving a wide range of delicious Belgian specialities!

Your second day in Brussels will be packed with tourist attractions! On today’s programme, visits to Mini-Europe (LAEKEN), OCÉADE (LAEKEN) and the Atomium (LAEKEN) preceded by a generous breakfast and then metro line 6 to the Heysel station!

>Europe at your feet
It is possible to admire all the great iconic monuments of Europe at once, Mini-Europe (LAEKEN), with its scale models of all these buildings which will delight young and old alike. Take a guided tour and learn about the historical and cultural context of these buildings, as well as many amusing anecdotes, which make a visit here a treat for your mind as well as your eyes!

After a stop for lunch at BRUPARCK - THE VILLAGE (LAEKEN), a pedestrianised complex of bars and restaurants, head for the tropics at the OCÉADE (LAEKEN) water park! The water in its pools is maintained at 29°C all year round, and there are also 12 different water-slides with dramatic drops, a wave-pool, saunas and jacuzzis in bright Caribbean colours...a delight for children and parents alike!

> The Atomium (LAEKEN)
After a miniature version of Europe and life-sized water fun, it’s time for an XXL-sized atom! The Atomium, is 102m high and has 9 spheres linked by 20 tubes. Built entirely of metal, it represents an iron molecule magnified 165 billion times! And lunch in the restaurant in the uppermost sphere would be an ideal way to end your mini-break in Brussels. As well as great food, you can enjoy unusual views of the city you’ve been visiting this weekend!

Designed and built by the Belgian engineer André Waterkeyn for the 1958 Universal Exhibition, the Atomium is one of the most-visited monuments in the world. Comprehensively renovated in 2006, it is a symbol of daring, design and modernity. In addition to its restaurant are several display areas and shops.
